EIA scheme solar panels

As an entrepreneur, you will find everything about the possibilities and conditions of the EIA scheme and a step-by-step plan for applying for it on this page.

01

You apply for the EIA

02

You agree with the quote.

03

You report the approved quotation to the RVO.

04

You state the energy investment deduction in your tax return.

The EIA scheme for entrepreneurs

The Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) is a tax scheme with which the government supports you in energy-saving and sustainable investments. You are investing with photovoltaic solar panels in a business asset that meets the requirements of the Energy List (category D, renewable energy).

After purchase, you can make use of the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA). This is a tax deduction scheme that you apply with your tax return.

Using the EIA yields an average of 11% advantage! When you use EIA, you as an entrepreneur have a double advantage: you pay less tax and your energy costs go down.

For maximum benefit you can combine EIA with de KIA.

Netting is allowed

Is your current connection to the Net a maximum of 3*80A? Then investing in solar panels for business is extra beneficial. You are using the netting arrangement.

You receive the same electricity rate as you pay for every kWh of electricity you supply. You are therefore often eligible for the EIA, provided your investment in solar panels meets the following 4 conditions:

  • You have a business for your own account and you are liable for income or corporation tax in the Netherlands.

  • You invest in a business asset that costs at least € 2,500.

  • You report your investment, per type of business asset, digitally via the eLoket of RVO.

  • Your current connection to the Net is a maximum of 3*80A.

The EIA deduction for 2022 is 45.5%

The EIA scheme offers direct financial benefits to entrepreneurs who invest in solar panels. Solar panels fall under technical provisions for the use or application of sustainable energy.

In addition to the depreciation, you may deduct an extra amount from the profit of your investment. It concerns costs that you pay for the purchase and production costs.

You must submit an application to RVO within 3 months of making the investment. You log in to the eLoket (with eHerkenning). You can then apply the EIA in your tax return.

  • It is intended for generating electrical energy from sunlight using solar panels.

  • The photovoltaic solar cells have a combined peak power of more than 15 kW

  • You are connected to the electricity grid via a connection with a total maximum forward value of 3*80 A (or less).

Conditions SDE++ subsidy

The conditions to be eligible for the SDE++ subsidy are:

  • Only business parties are eligible for the subsidy for solar panels. The subsidy applies to all legal entities, but also to a partnership, foundation, general partnership and cv.

  • The installations for the production of renewable electricity from sunlight by photovoltaic solar panels are installed on or attached to a building.

  • You can connect the solar panels to the electricity grid through a connection with a total transmission value greater than 3*80 A (large consumer connection).

  • You can apply for a subsidy for a capacity between 15 kWp - 1 MWp.

  • The installation is performed by a construction installation company.

  • You are not allowed to do the installation yourself.

  • You first apply for the SDE++ subsidy before concluding a purchase agreement with the supplier of the solar panels.

  • You have a suitable gross production meter installed.

  • You must start using the solar panels within 12 months after you have received the decision on the subsidy application.

  • You are not entitled to an SDE++ subsidy if another subsidy has already been granted for the same installation.

  • By 'provided' is meant the granting and/or determination of another subsidy.

Roadmap

You report your investment, per type of business asset, digitally via the eLoket of RVO.

Make sure you report your investment on time. If your investment qualifies for EIA, you will receive a statement. This statement states the amount that qualifies for EIA.

The total amount of energy investments that can qualify for EIA per company is a minimum of € 2,500 and a maximum of € 126 million per calendar year. You may deduct 45.5% of the investment amount for which you received an EIA statement from the taxable profit.
